the samsung galaxy s10 5g is a big phone, which is not surprising considering its 6.7-inch screen. That said, at 7.94mm, it’s not particularly thick at 198g, nor is it as heavy as some smartphones with smaller screens, including the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom or OnePlus 7 Pro.
The power key sits on the right of the s10 5g and is reasonably easy to reach, while the volume rocker sits above the bixby button on the left. press the bixby button for quick access to samsung digital assistant; more on that later.
The top of the phone is where you’ll find the sim card slot, though unlike the rest of the galaxy s10 lineup, there’s no microsd card slot. this might put off some buyers, but with a starting capacity of 256gb it’s not the end of the world.
at the base of the s10 5g you will find a usb-c port, a speaker grill and a headphone jack. As for the gigantic screen, it’s a massive 6.7-inch 19:9 Dynamic Amoled display and sports a punch-hole camera block in the top right corner.
The screen also curves over the edges of the phone, creating the familiar, futuristic finish we’ve grown accustomed to on Samsung’s flagship phones, and continues elegantly with the curved glass back.
Embedded within the display is an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, allowing for a clean design on the back of the galaxy s10 5g, leaving aside the slight camera bump. ultrasonic scanners, as featured on the honor 10, work when wet, and we’re happy to report that we found the s10 5gs to work great, wet or dry.
When it comes to color options, you can choose the galaxy s10 5g in three: crown silver, majestic black and royal gold, with our review device, provided by vodafone in the uk, being the crown silver version.
the design finally impresses. this is a big phone, but it still manages to be sleek, slim, and manageable for the most part.
- huge 6.7-inch dynamic amoled screen
- qhd+ resolution means it’s sharp
- class-leading quality
samsung displays are always a gold standard, so it should come as no surprise that the almighty 6.7-inch dynamic amoled display on the front of the s10 5g is a thing of beauty. With a screen-to-body ratio of nearly 90% and an aspect ratio of 19:9, it’s tall, but not as tall as the Sony Xperia 1.
It’s also very clear, with a resolution of 1440 x 3040 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 502 pixels per inch. Protected by Gorilla Glass 6, it’s relatively tough, especially coupled with the phone’s IP68 water and dust resistance.
Viewing angles are solid, as is brightness, and outdoor visibility never drops, even in direct sunlight. within the settings, there’s also a degree of customization when it comes to punching and color balance. turning on vivid mode enhances the hues of the amoled and by doing so you can also tailor the color temperature to suit your eyes.
The s10 5g also features the biggest hole in any of the new s10 phones, so it’s also the most noticeable. however, it’s technically located in the notification bar, so it doesn’t cause any issues during general use.
Dive into the configuration of a host of display-related features. These include handy tools like Smart Stay, so your phone doesn’t sleep until you stop looking at it. You can also lower the resolution, reducing power consumption by lowering the user interface to HD+ (720 x 1520). like most new flagships, therefore, the s10 5g is a bag of tricks and then some.
