how to pair a vizio soundbar with a subwoofer?
To pair a vizio sound bar with a subwoofer, you must first make sure that both devices are turned on. after that, you need to set both to pairing mode and pair them. If any of these don’t work, you’ll need to reset your soundbar.
3 steps to pair vizio sound with subwoofer
#1: Check that both devices are turned on
a successful bluetooth connection needs your devices to be turned on.
This is the first step to make sure the pairing process goes smoothly.
but sometimes, some people forget.
and then worry why their devices won’t pair with each other.
so before we get into anything…
first, make sure the vizio soundbar and subwoofer are turned on.
To power up your subwoofer, you simply need to:
- plug it into a power source.
- check if there is a power button you need to press.
- wait until the soundbar turns on, and your sub receives electrical input.
The third step is very important.
This is because most subwoofers are designed with an “auto on/standby” mode.
what is that?
means that your subwoofer will only turn on when it detects an audio input.
“why is that?”
Your subwoofer needs to receive an electrical signal from a receiver, such as your soundbar.
when you do, it will turn on automatically.
and when not, it will turn off.
this is useful for saving power, which is good. submarines consume a lot of electricity.
Now, to turn on your vizio soundbar, follow these steps:
- make sure it is plugged in and connected to your TV.
- turn on your TV.
- press “power” on your remote or press the power button the sound bar.
note: try turning the volume up or down to check if the sound bar is on.
the volume indicators on the vizio soundbar will light up if it is on.
power problems with subwoofer and sound bar
“help! My subwoofer doesn’t seem to turn on.”
don’t panic. there are some solutions you can try for that problem.
Step 1: First, check the lights on your subwoofer.
Most subwoofers have an LED that lights up when it’s on.
If you don’t see anything, the sub may be in standby mode.
Step 2: Check the cables.
make sure there are no frayed or damaged cables.
Also, check if the subwoofer is connected to the correct input/output ports.
Step 3: Check if the menu settings have been changed.
On your receiver, such as your soundbar, your subwoofer must be set to the correct input setting.
Step 4: Unplug from the wall and plug it back in.
if nothing still works, try disconnecting and reconnecting your sub.
“I don’t see any volume indicator lights on my vizio sound bar.”
if you are having power issues with your vizio soundbar, try these:
step 1: restart the sound bar.

You can do this by unplugging the soundbar’s power cord.
and then from the wall.
once this is done, press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds.
plug it back in and check.
Step 2: Check the lights on your sound bar.
Step 3: Check that the power cable is securely connected to the soundbar and to the wall.
step 4: connect another device to the power outlet.
Step 5: Contact vizio for assistance.
#2: Set the soundbar and subwoofer to pairing mode
The next step is to put your vizio and sub sound bar into pairing mode.
if you pair them for the first time…
vizio recommends placing them within a foot of each other.
but don’t worry, once paired, they can go further.
They just need to be a little closer when they first pair up.
To put your subwoofer into pairing mode:
- look for a button that says “pairing” or “link”.
- press and release that button.
the process is also super simple for a vizio sound bar.
On your remote, you just need to look for a button that says “pair”.
then tap “pair”.
or you can press the power button for at least 10 seconds.
This is especially true for newer models of vizio sound bars.
To be completely sure, check your manual.
Watch this process in this video:
#3 – Check if the devices are now paired
finally, your soundbar should now be paired with your subwoofer.
This process should be automatic once both devices are in pairing mode.
In fact, on some systems, the subwoofer will automatically pair with the soundbar.
even during initial setup.
or the first time you configure the system.
“how do i know my vizio sound bar and subwoofer are already synced?”
You just need to check the light on the back of the subwoofer.
if it is flashing, it means the subwoofer is not paired yet.
if solid, that means your subwoofer is now paired with your sound bar.
“the light is blinking”.
if your subwoofer won’t pair with your vizio soundbar, try these solutions:
- unplug the power cables from both devices.
- wait a few seconds.
- plug them back in.
- pair them mode again.
bonus: reset your vizio sound bar
This solution is for when you can’t get your soundbar to work with your subwoofer.
but remember: this should be done as a last resort.
Don’t restart the soundbar if you haven’t tried turning it on first.
“but I already did, and it still won’t pair with my sub.”
To reset your sound bar to factory settings, you can try in two ways.
The first is to reset your remote.
First, check to see if you have a working remote.
if it does, continue with the next steps.
- on your remote, press “menu”.
- use the arrow buttons to find “reset”.
- use the arrow buttons to select “reset instead of “no”.

If you don’t have a remote, try the second option to reset to factory settings.
this consists of pressing some buttons on the sound bar itself.
- Look for the “bluetooth” and “volume down” buttons on your sound bar.
- press and hold for at least five seconds.
- wait for the 12 leds to blink 3 times.
When you factory reset your vizio sound bar…
You will lose all the settings you previously set.
this means that any previous matches will be deleted.
then if you pair your soundbar with your subwoofer, it’ll be right back to the first time.
Follow the instructions in this article to redo the process.

vizio subwoofer not working: 5 causes & corrections
#1: Subwoofer is out of sync
The number one cause of a subwoofer not working is that it hasn’t been paired.
As explained above, a subwoofer needs to receive an electrical signal.
from a sound bar or other device that acts as a receiver.
if it can’t receive a signal, it won’t work.
to make sure it pairs successfully with a device:
step 1. check if it is in pairing mode.
Step 2: Make sure it’s not too far from your sound bar.
Step 3: Assess for physical obstructions that may interfere with the signal.
Step 4: Move other wireless devices that may obstruct pairing.
These include microwave ovens and cordless phones.
#2: Power cables are not connected properly
Your subwoofer may also have loose cable connections.
If the cables are not connected correctly, the subwoofer will not turn on.
let alone pair with a device and play audio.
Check if the power cable is well connected to the subwoofer and to the power outlet.
and the soundbar or receiver you’re pairing it with.
#3: The media you are trying to play is muted
This is a common error that some people forget to check.
your sub won’t work if the media you’re trying to load is muted.
checking this should be easy…
simply turn the volume up or down on your TV, soundbar and sub.
#4: you need content that has more bass
Your subwoofer is designed to amplify lower musical frequencies.
These include bass and subwoofer.
and that’s what makes it such a wonderful device.
for example, normal speakers will allow you to hear bass sounds.
but with a sub, you can almost feel the bass.
so if you think your vizio sub isn’t working…
what could be happening is that your content just doesn’t have much bass.
try to play other content with scenes/sounds like:
- bass lines (in music).
#5: There is a problem with the content you are trying to listen to
Finally, check if there are any issues with the content you’re playing.
an easy way to do this is to do a speaker test.
vizio recommends the following:
- on your remote, go to the menu.
- find the speaker test.
- press “play” to start the test.
- wait if you hear any sounds when the test checks your subwoofer.
If none of these fixes worked, contact vizio for support.
